Badge of Awesome Communities invites you to share your favourite things to see and do in cool destinations around the world. We caught up with the folks from Grotto Gardens — one of our featured attractions from Saskatchewan — to learn about what they have to offer.
What makes Grotto Gardens awesome?
Grotto Gardens: Grotto Gardens is an awesome family fun farm! Our customers have called it a respite from city life — a break in the country without having to get poo on your boots. It’s country for the ginger spice latte crowd!
The community of Maple Creek and the province of Saskatchewan have said what a welcome addition Grotto Gardens is, commending its unique mix of innovation, nostalgic comforts and a relaxing environment.
We create a memorable experience for our guests that they cannot get elsewhere. It’s not about making a purchase; it’s all about the experiential activity and those moments of awe.
A ten-acre berry orchard lends its Saskatoon fruit to our delicious treats in the country bakery. Our daughter, Silken, is the craft baker who is skillful in creating tasty pastries.
Our quaint gift shop offers many Canadian & Saskatchewan-made gifts and is housed in a western red cedar log structure built by owner Dan Sellinger.
Meanwhile, Saskatchewan’s first Goat-walk is a fun family activity. Visitors entice the goats to climb high across the Log beams while offering a treat via a pulley system. The miniature potbelly pigs and miniature donkeys are a drawing card for the whole family to enjoy.
New this past 2017 season and an ongoing success is our Goat-Yoga. An hour class offered twice per week in our newly constructed goat-yoga barn. Our new baby goats will participate this Spring!
This 2018 season, Grotto Gardens has partnered with the local Nekaneet First Nations to offer “A Taste of Bannock” and “Teepee Teachings.” Classes will be hosted at Grotto Gardens near a teepee constructed by a local indigenous Elder. Come experience this authentic cultural activity, participate in making bannock over a fire and hear the stories about life before the Grotto.

Grotto Gardens is professionally landscaped with beautiful perennial gardens and large hanging baskets. Visitors enjoy sitting on one of three covered decks and enjoy a glass of cypress Hills wine or a Hearty-burger from the grill . A must-taste is our famous Saskatoon berry pie for dessert.
Grotto Gardens is a family-owned business, established in 2015 by Dan Sellinger and Dana Hassett with daughters Silken and Sayla and son-in-law Taylor Zoethout. The business is a tribute to our son, Dean Sellinger, who passed away from cancer at the age of 14. The family constructed a stone Grotto on the corner of the property which contains Deans ashes. The Grotto is surrounded by perennial gardens and the blooming orchard of Saskatoon berry bushes. Hence the name Grotto Gardens.
