Badge of Awesome Communities invites you to share your favourite things to see and do in cool destinations around the world. We caught up with the folks from Chromer Sport Fishing — one of our featured attractions from the Vancouver, British Columbia area — to learn about what they have to offer.

What makes Chromer Sport Fishing awesome?

Right out our backdoor we have year-round fly fishing opportunities. Most people visiting Vancouver know it’s a beautiful city with lots of attractions but most visitors have no idea of the really awesome wild places we have within an hour of downtown. Our guided fly fishing service pick guests up right at their Vancouver hotel and we have them fishing wild coastal rivers in less than an hour! No crowds, no highways, no nothing, just free-flowing glacier-fed streams and rivers that are home to salmon, trout and steelhead.

Extra awesome is that we offer these trips year-round! Most guests fish with us in the Summer & Fall months, that’s when we are fishing for trout and for salmon. But there’s also lots of great fishing for trout and steelhead, a sea-run rainbow trout, through the Winter & Spring months.

We have a pretty amazing crew of guides, all with 20+ years of fishing in the area and all friendly and full of patience. We have all kinds of people come fly fishing with us, from total beginners to seasoned experts. We also make going fly fishing in Vancouver really easy because we include transportation from the city and all the waders and gear, so getting out for a day or two is always easy.

If fly fishing isn’t for you, but you want to go fishing in Vancouver, we also offer saltwater salmon fishing charters & sturgeon fishing on the Fraser River, east of Vancouver. It’s really fun to be offer our clients so many awesome and unique fishing experiences within such close proximity of Vancouver.

What makes the Vancouver and the surrounding areas awesome?

Well, lots of things, but the fact that visitors can do so many activities outdoors is probably the most awesome thing about Vancouver and the surrounding areas. That’s why we love living here! You can ski, play golf, go hiking or spend a day whale watching, all within minutes of downtown Vancouver. The area we do most of our fly fishing trips is called Squamish, an ancient glacier valley located about 45 minutes north of Vancouver. Everyone that comes fly fishing with us is blown away by the spectacular beauty of the valley and the Sea to Sky area.
