Badge of Awesome Communities invites you to share your favourite things to see and do in cool destinations around the world. We caught up with the folks from Long Table Distillery — one of our featured attractions from the Vancouver, British Columbia area — to learn about what they have to offer.
What Makes Long Table Distillery Awesome?
Long Table Distillery: They are Vancouver’s first micro-distillery. As award winning Ginsmiths, they’re all about producing small-batch, handcrafted gins and seasonal spirits. When owners Charles and Rita Tremewen founded Long Table in 2010, they wanted to share their passion for creating premium-quality gin using traditional copper pot distillation practices. Today, that passion has paid off, with their London Dry, Cucumber and Barrel Rested Gin, and a host of nano-batched seasonal spirits that include their Amaro Linnaeus and Limoncello. All of which are taking home top prize for best in category at the most respected international spirits competitions around the world. Still, they remain committed to staying true to local roots. Using 100% Canadian grain-based alcohol and maintaining a network of wild foragers, they select botanicals from around B.C. and global sources to create West Coast-inspired recipes that have contributed to building their award-winning lineup. Long Table’s custom-built, 300-litre copper-pot still is the beating heart of the operation and consistently distills their celebrated collection of premium spirits that reveal bold character and refined taste.
Located at 1451 Hornby St. in Vancouver’s North False Creek residential neighbourhood, this distillery is in a one-of-a-kind space that offers the warm setting for spirit tasting, cocktails on Fridays and Saturdays (currently) and a social gathering spot. The eponymous centerpiece of the distillery is a stunning 14-foot live-edge table fashioned from locally milled Sequoia Redwood that they hand-finished. The table offers a place to raise a glass with old and new friends and sample signature offerings and craft cocktails – a long table is truly a place for kindred spirits to meet!
